(Orlando, FL, Friday, November 4, 2016) – One of the most expensive ballot amendments ever, bought and paid for by Florida’s monopoly utilities.

Amendment 1 will now go down in history as almost the most costly ballot amendment, and despite its deceptive organizing name, “Consumers for Smart Solar”, has been bought and paid for by Florida utilities to actually limit solar energy in the Sunshine State.

An incredible, and historic coalition of 270 citizen, civic and partisan groups have come together to oppose Amendment 1, urging voters to say a strong and hearty NO, to the utility-backed amendment 1.

Pamela Goodman, President of the Florida League of Women Voters, warns Florida voters.

SOUNDBITE #1:

YOU KNOW IT’S SIMPLE: THE POWER COMPANIES ARE AFRAID OF LOSING THEIR PROFITS, AND SO THEY HAVE RAISED AN INCREDIBLE TWENTY-SIX MILLION DOLLARS TO TRICK THE VOTERS. TRYING TO PULL THE WOOL OVER THE EYES OF VOTERS IS NOT EASY, BUT TWENTY-SIX MILLION BUYS A LOT OF WOOL, AND SO FAR A LOT OF TV COMMERCIALS, MAILERS AND ROBO CALLS. HOWEVER, A BRIGHT SPOT IN THIS DAVID AND GOLIATH BATTLE AGAINST OUR GIANT UTILITIES IS THE SUPPORT OF THE PRESS – TWENTY-FIVE NEWSPAPERS HAVE URGED VOTERS TO SAY NO, WITH NOT ONE SINGLE NEWSPAPER IN THE STATE SUPPORTING THIS AMENDMENT.

SOUNDBITE #2:

BE INFORMED AND KNOW THAT AMENDMENT ONE IS FUNDED BY THE UTILITIES AND WILL SLOW OR EVEN HALT SOLAR IN FLORIDA DESPITE ITS PRO SOLAR SOUNDING NAME. INCREDIBLY A UTILITY LOBBYIST WAS JUST CAUGHT ON VIDEO BRAGGING ABOUT HOW THEY ARE TRICKING FLORIDA VOTERS WITH “JUJITSU’ AT A UTILITY CONVENTION. DON’T BE TRICKED: VOTE NO ON AMENDMENT ONE.

The League of Women Voters of Florida is one of the largest and most respected non partisan civic groups in the state, and urges everyone to be sure to vote early or by election day on November 8th to make your voice heard.
