RSA Security Shares the Latest Developments and User Protections From the 2018 Black Hat USA Security Conference

Mike Adler, VP, RSA Security

(Las Vegas, NV, Wednesday, August 8, 2018) – As cybersecurity and privacy stories dominate the news today, it can be tough to know how to stay safe in our connected world. Today, RSA Security is live from the floor of Black Hat USA, one of the largest security conferences in the world, and sharing tips to help users mitigate their digital risk.

Currently in its 21st year, the annual conference attracts the industry’s best security researchers to discuss developments on cyber trends, emerging threats, and solutions to some of the largest hacks evidenced in the prior year to protect consumers and businesses from cyber threats.

The cyber threats discussed this week will only increase in frequency as we move closer to the mid-term elections and holiday shopping season, so managing digital risk should continue to be a top priority for all. For instance, in the last three months alone, RSA’s Quarterly Fraud Report found a 60% increase in compromised credit cards and personal information gained from end users and businesses.

RSA recommends people take the following steps to protect themselves from hackers to manage their digital risk:

  • Above all else, it’s important to remember that everyone, not just your security IT team, can help manage digital risk. An individual is the easiest target for hackers.
  • If you receive a suspicious email, text message, Tweet or a Facebook message directing you to a website or asking for your personal information or login information, avoid clicking on links or attachments. Share it with your IT department to make sure it’s legitimate.
  • With technologies like machine learning, your security IT team can learn the devices and applications you most frequently use and trigger a message if they see you logging in from somewhere unfamiliar—adding layers of safety and helping reduce everyone’s digital risk.
