September 4, 2018

Proceeds From the Event Will Support Families in Treatment For Pediatric Cancer in the Greater Washington, DC-Area

(Bethesda, MD, Wednesday, June 14, 2017) – On Sunday, June 18, 2017, JUST TRYAN IT will run its 8th annual race in Bethesda, MD, at Landon School. JUST TRYAN IT is a non-profit foundation supporting families fighting childhood cancer, and seeks to positively impact the lives of families whose children have been diagnosed with cancer by providing them with financial assistance. JUST TRYAN IT also strives to instill the importance of philanthropy and service, promote wellness, and inspire tomorrow’s leaders to make a difference.

Bethesda-resident Ryan Darby was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in December of 2009. During treatment, it was tough, his body took a toll. He got headaches, pain in his knees and pain in his back. During that time, he received so much love and support from family and friends. That support inspired his loved ones to start a foundation, and JUST TRYAN IT was born. In the last eight years it has transpired into a movement.

A few details to get a feel for the stories we have to tell:

The first race was held in Bethesda at Landon School in 2010.  Since then, kids triathlons have been held in three locations, including Baltimore and Chapel Hill starting in 2016. There are plans to expand with potential races in New Haven, CT, Northern Virginia, and Park City, Utah. Proceeds from the Bethesda event will support families in treatment for pediatric cancer in the Greater Washington, DC-area.

Last year, at age 12, Ryan was named the National Youth Ambassador to Hyundai Hope On Wheels Foundation. For more information on the Father’s Day Race on June 18 at Landon School, visit JUST TRYAN IT.
