Mecklenburg County Approves Funding for 33 New Pre-K Classrooms

Will Enable About 600 Additional Children to Have Access to High Quality Early Learning Starting this Fall

Thursday, August 30, 2018

Dear PSA Director,

In Mecklenburg County, less than one-third of children who are 4-years old have access to public pre-k.  Research shows that all children benefit from high-quality pre-k programs, which are the gateway to school readiness and success. Unfortunately, too many young children in Mecklenburg County start school without the skills to succeed.

In June, the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners approved funding for 33 new pre-k classrooms as the first installment to implement voluntary, universal public pre-K for all 4 year-old children in the County.  To pay for the public pre-k expansion, Commissioners adopted an increase of 3/4s of a penny in the property tax, which will enable about 600 additional children to have access to high quality early learning starting this fall.

Please help your listeners find out this important information about enrolling in pre-k in Mecklenburg County by placing this PSA in heavy rotation now through September 30, 2018.

Thank you in advance for your support.
